Westville Synagogue COVID-19 Guidelines

Welcome to the Westville Synagogue ברוכים הבאים

Westville Synagogue’s highest value is welcoming all who come to daven, socialize, learn or share food. We also respect the concerns of people who feel a need to protect themselves from possible exposure to COVID or other airborne infections.

Please act in accordance with the following guidance:

  1. It is important to respect the health of others, especially where a number of our members are older and may be more susceptible (at risk) to infection.

  2. If you believe you have or might have COVID, Flu, or any other respiratory infection, please consider not attending until you have recovered.

  3. Anyone may feel free, at any time, to wear a mask and all of us will respect that choice. Synagogue activities other than sharing food/drink will facilitate optional mask wearing.

  4. Members should note that vaccination is the most effective means of reducing risk of hospitalization and severe illness from COVID. We encourage you to keep your vaccinations up to date.

Synagogue practice for Shabbat:

  • The gabbaim will continue to stand outside the bimah and the individual whose aliya has just finished will stand at the lectern outside the bimah.

  • The Rabbi will make Kiddush from the bimah at the conclusion of davening so that all people attending, whether or not they come for the kiddush after services, may hear it.

Both of these practices will remain under review on a quarterly basis by a committee constituted of the President, Chairman, Gabbaim, Rabbi and appropriate medical advisors.

For purposes of contact tracing if needed and to help make minyan: Please enter your name on the Minyan Spreadsheet for every service you plan to attend, here:
